How to attend the Buck Creek Festival
The only seating in the park are a few benches and picnic tables. Be smart and bring your own chairs. I like to lay a tarp then a blanket near the stage and put my chairs on top of it. It is also a great meeting place for the family. You can leave a family there to watch over purses and purchases. Bonus: If it gets too cool then you can cuddle with the blanket and if it sprinkle then you make a fort with the tarp.
Who’s in charge?
Volunteers wear shirts with the Buck Creek Festival on them. They have a headquarters tent. It is near the concession stand building, there is a brick wall, right inside that gate there is usually the BCF committee tent where they sell shirts and ducks. There is also a spot at Amphitheater entrance where they help vendors and check for people bringing food and drink.
The Kiwanis sponsors an inflatable park at the very back. You buy an armband. Dollar for dollar this is the best deal in the park. You can also take advantage of the free playground in the park. There is a sweet spot where you can set up your chairs to see the concert stage and be close to the playgrounds and bathrooms. If you can’t find a child (or you lost your parent), they will make announcements at the stage. Pick out a meet up point with your children in case you get separated. Be mindful of the locations of bathrooms and make sure your children go before the leave the park.
There will be lots of port-o-lets in the back (close to the creek) near the playground.
The concession stand has two unisex bathrooms. There are also two more bathrooms in the last building behind the Kiwanis inflatable play area. There is also another public bathroom in Old Town in the Depot across from the Red Caboose. So make sure the children go before before getting in the car and before you leave the amphitheater.
The standard: No Pets, Bikes, golf carts, coolers, evil robots, etc
Food and Drinks:
No outside food or drinks are allowed in the park. It is a free event but they check at the entrance. Traditional the concession stand has the best prices but with all the food vendors it is a hard choice. Some vendors have really cheap drinks to bring in customers so shop around.
Normally they have shuttles which be available throughout the festival to transport people from three different parking lots around town. The main parking areas for the event will be at the Helena Sports Complex and the First Baptist Church, while the Helena Elementary School lot will be available on Saturday. please be considerate of the business and homes in Old Town. Please do not block drive away or parked cars.
There is a beer tent, which is in the back of concert area of the amphitheater. They only take cash and they will check your age.
You need cash for almost everything. For most of the Festival, Regions Bank parks an ATM vehicle near the concession stand.
Something you have got to see. Thousands of yellow rubber ducks going over the waterfall. You can usually buy tickets for the Rubber Duck up until a few minutes before the race but don’t wait. It happens at 3pm and everyone rushes over right before. Last two years they start right on time if not a few seconds early.
If you go early then you can get spot on the island in front of the waterfall and not have to fight the crowd. Also a lot of people leave right after the race so time it right. The ducks are dumped from a floating raft up the river (above the waterfall). Normally Major Dundee fires a civil war canon from behind the Depot to signal the start. . The duck wranglers wait at the bottom to collect the winning ducks under the bridge. The money raised will go toward Helena School band.
